Let's look at some German signs.
I found this sign outside of a private garage.
Schrauber-Bude
Mechanic Booth
Wir pfuschen nicht, wir sind kreativ!
We aren't botching the job, we are being creative!
The term Schrauber is used coloquially, and is an endearing term for a mechanic. It literally translates to screwer.
The sign is self-depreciating, and making fun of the owners hobby and abilities.
The art work is inspired by a famouse German comic book series titled Werner. The main character is a plumbing apprentice, not the sharpest tool in the shead, but a genius in his shed while working on his monster bike.
A sign often found on publicly accessible grounds, but privately owned.
Achtung!
Warning!
Privatgrundstück
Private Property
Eingeschränkter Winterdienst!
Limited services during winter!
Benutzung auf eigene Gefahr
Entry at your own risk
This is a warning sign informing people, that they are entering private property.
Further, they are communicating, that people entering do so at their own risk.
And most importantly, telling the reader, that during winter it might be dangerous due to weather conditions, and the lack of clearing services offered by the property owner.
Vorsicht Schießanlage
Beware Shooting Range
betreten verboten!
entering is prohibited!
This is at the back of the Rheingönheimer Schützenverein, a shooting club.
Guns are heavily regulated in Germany, but are available to anyone with a gun license.
One shouldn't need a translatation for this one.
Bei Störung [telefonnummer]
In case of a problem [phone number]
Hochspannung - Lebensgefahr
High voltage - Deadly
This sign is attached to a high voltage powerline mast.
At the top, it lists a phone number to call, in case there is an issue.
Below, framed in a rectangle, is the explicit warning, that these lines carry high voltage electricity, posing a threat to life.
